  • Basebed Portland Stone is a high quality British limestone with soft, neutral tones. Quarried from the Isle of Portland in Dorset, it offers controlled colour variation and a consistent fine grain structure. Consequently, it carries a proven track record in major UK buildings, including St Paul’s Cathedral and the Palace of Westminster.

Moreover, this stone combines heritage performance with modern design requirements. Its dense structure supports indoor floors in both residential and light commercial projects, performing reliably in kitchens, living areas and circulation spaces. In addition, the subtle fossil content keeps an even appearance across larger floor areas.

Each tile is cut and finished to accurate sizes with clean edges, allowing precise layout and tight joint lines. The stone withstands regular foot traffic when properly sealed and maintained. As a result, Basebed Portland Stone gives trade professionals a durable and reliable bespoke solution for indoor projects.

  • Following installation, we recommend sealing this stone to improve performance and longevity. Specifically, apply a high quality breathable sealer to reduce porosity and prevent stains. As a result, you restrict moisture ingress and minimise surface wear in high traffic or external areas.

For ongoing care, maintain the surface with routine dry sweeping and also periodic cleaning using a pH neutral stone cleaner. However, avoid acidic or abrasive compounds, as they compromise the calcite structure. In addition, schedule resealing according to site exposure and usage levels. Consequently, with correct maintenance, this stone will deliver long term wear and a consistent appearance.
